Over the weekend, Madonna celebrated her 65th birthday in Lisbon, Portugal. There, she took the time to introduce her 29-year-old boyfriend, Joshua Popper, to her son, Rocco Ritchie, 23. Madonna and Popper began dating earlier this year. They first met while he was training her son, David Banda, at his boxing studio.
Rocco is Madonna’s oldest son with her ex-husband, film director Guy Ritchie. He was on the family trip along with siblings Lourdes, 26, David Banda, 17, Mercy James, 17, and twins Stella and Estere, 10.
The pop star wrote on Instagram, “It’s great to be Alive… and Amazing to Be able to put on my dancing shoes and Celebrate my Birthday! Im So Grateful. Thank you Lisbon and to all who made it possible!”
She then shared photos and videos from the party. In one of the images, Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes, could be seen singing to her mother. In another video, Madonna was spotted eating dinner with her friends and family as she said, “It’s great to be alive!”
The Instagram post came just a day after Madonna announced the rescheduled dates for her Celebration Tour. In June 2023, Madonna nearly died from a bacterial infection. She was sent to the ICU after she was found unresponsive.
The singer never disclosed details about her specific affliction, but she thanked her fans after being discharged from the hospital. “I have felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life,” she said.
