Madonna Granted Permission To Adopt Twins From Malawi

Madonna was granted permission Tuesday to adopt twins from Malawi.

The Malawi High Court opted to allow the adoption for the singer. The decision was met with some opposition from Malawians for the government’s choice to let Madonna skirt laws that ban non-residents from adopting.

Madonna, 58, was present in the courtroom when the decision was passed down. “Madonna has demonstrated over the years that she has passion for Malawi and her children and therefore the court was satisfied and could not stop the adoption of the twins,” said her lawyer Titus Mvalo.

No details about the adopted children will be divulged. The only condition of their adoption was that Madonna must provide a report as evidence that the home in which the children will live is suitable.

Last month Madonna denied reports that she was looking to adopt more children after a visit to Malawi, saying the trip was only for charity work. In 2006, the star established the non-profit Raising Mawali to provide health and education programs for children, particularly girls.

Madonna already has two adopted kids from Malawi, David Banda and Mercy James. She has two biological children, Lourdes and Rocco from past relationships as well.
