Although a film about Madonna’s early life is currently in production, the seven time Grammy winner has not signed off. In fact, she’s even gone as far as to scold it. The film, titled Blond Ambition – named after the singer’s third concert tour – was written by Elyse Hollander and purchased by Universal earlier this year.
In a post to Instagram, the “Vogue” singer wrote, “Nobody knows what I know and what I have seen. Only I can tell my story. Anyone else who tries is a charlatan and a fool.”
She ended the caption by pointing to, what she believes to be, a larger problem with a biopic being made without the historical figures’ consent.
“Looking for instant gratification without doing the work. This is a disease in our society,” Madonna, 58, wrote.
The Blond Ambition script was voted to be the best unproduced script of 2016 by Black List, a survey conducted every December since 2005. Past top vote getters include Juno, American Hustle, Argo, The King’s Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, Spotlight, and The Revenant.
Blond Ambition is set to focus on the early years of Madonna’s career, including the writing of her first album, Madonna, and her battle against the sexism of the music industry.
