Madonna Responds To Critics Of Her Prince Tribute
Madonna and her ex-husband, director Guy Ritchie, are fighting over where their teenage son Rocco Richie should live.
Rocco, 15, had been visiting his father in London and was to return to the United States to spend Christmas with his mother. For unknown reasons, Rocco wanted to stay with Richie, who planned to keep him in London. Unable to sway her son or ex-husband, Madonna went to the Manhattan Supreme Court. The court subsequently ordered that Rocco be returned to the States.
“He has expressed very clearly that he does not want to return to New York,” a attorney representing Ritchie told Justice Lewis Kaplan, reported the New York Daily News.
Despite arguments from Ritchie’s attorney, Kaplan stated, “I’m directing the child to be returned to New York.”
While Kaplan ruled that Rocco needed to go back to New York to be with his mother, he also stated that the parents and child needed to determine where it would be best for Rocco to live moving forward. Rocco will be represented in the forthcoming custody case by a court-appointed attorney.
In addition to Rocco, Madonna and Richie, who were married in 2000 and divorced in 2008, are parents to David Banda, who they adopted in 2006. Madonna has 18-year-old Lourdes with Carlos Leon, and Mercy James, whom she adopted in 2009.
