Mad About You, a popular sitcom that ran from 1992 to 1999 on NBC, might be getting a revival.
According to TV Line’s sources, Sony is currently in “informal talks” with Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt in creating a “limited run” continuation of Mad About You. Reiser, the show’s co-crater alongside Danny Jacobson, will spearhead the new season. NBC, in spite of airing the original program on their network, is evidentially currently uninvolved in these negotiations.
Respectively, Reiser and Hunt starred as the show’s protagonists, newlywed couple Paul and Jamie Buchman, during its original seven seasons. The premise for the new season involves the couple dealing with “empty-nest syndrome in the wake of now-17-year-old daughter Mabel’s admission to college.”
Reiser discussed the possibility of returning to Mad About You with People in October. The season’s finale was written to be conclusive, closing the door on revisiting the Buchmans’ story, and Reiser was satisfied with its ending at the time. However, he now found himself musing over seeing how the characters advanced in their lives, saying how “it’s interesting when I see my kids are growing and leaving the house. It’s like, ‘Oh.’ It’s like that moment when you get married. It’s like we’re in a new world that we don’t know the rules of.”
