‘Mad Men’s Jon Hamm Crawls Onstage To Accept Emmy, Thanks Ex-Girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt

Jon Hamm, who wrapped up his starring role on AMC’s Mad Men earlier this year, was finally awarded an Emmy for his turn as ad man Don Draper.

Jon Hamm Wins Emmy

At the 67th Annual Emmy Awards, Hamm bested Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul, Kyle Chandler for Bloodline, Kevin Spacey for House of Cards, Jeff Daniels for The Newsroom and Liev Schreiber for Ray Donovan for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series gong.

“There’s been a terrible mistake, clearly,” Hamm deadpanned upon crawling onto the stage to accept his Emmy, a reference to his eight previous nominations for the part that left him empty-handed.  Of the standing ovation he received, Hamm added, “Thank you for that.”

“It’s impossible to be named with all of those extraordinary gentleman. It’s impossible to be standing up here. It’s impossible to have done this show with this incredible cast, these incredible people, these incredible writers, the incredible crew,” said Hamm in his speech. “The network and studio, who puts this on. Lionsgate and AMC, am I saying that right?”

Hamm then went on to thank the people in his life outside of the series that have helped him get to this point in his life and career.

“It’s incredible and impossible for me personally to be standing here so I want to thank the people to whom I owe an incredible debt, people who in my life, have gotten me here,” he said. After naming a list of friends, Hamm singled out his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt and the dog they share together, Cora. “Cora and Jen, thank you all very much, I would not be standing here without you.”

“Thank you to everyone who watched the show,” Hamm said in conclusion, raising up his statue. “And, thank you for this.”

January Jones, who played Don Draper’s first wife Betty on Mad Men, could not have been happier for her costar.

“That was the thing I was most hoping for,” said Jones, speaking of Hamm’s win. “He not only represents all of us, but the body of work as a whole. It’s so deserved and I’m so proud of him.”
