Lyle Menendez’s wife, Rebecca Sneed, revealed that she and her husband are now separated on Friday.
The attorney revealed their separation with a Facebook post, noting that they have been “separated for a while now” but remain “best friends and family.”
“I continue to run his Facebook pages, with input from him, and I am forever committed to the enduring fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom, as has been so evident over the years,” she wrote.
Sneed concluded her post by saying, “I’ll continue to update you all on the case’s progress because I believe we all have the common goal of seeing the guys walk free! I will never stop fighting for them.”
Sneed was also firm in stating that her split with Lyle was not caused by “a cheating scandal.”
Last week, it was reported that the convicted murderer, 56, was having an ongoing affair with a 21-year-old student who attended the University of Manchester.
Just a few weeks before Sneed’s announcement, Lyle released a statement on Nov. 7 about navigating his marriage behind bars.
“This coming November will be my 20th wedding anniversary,” he wrote. “[Sneed’s] unwavering support and belief in me is something I am most grateful for and has played no small part in my journey to be a better person.”
Lyle and Sneed married each other in November 2023 while he and his brother, Erik Menendez, were incarcerated for their parents’ murders in 1989.
Erik and Lyle’s names re-entered the spotlight recently thanks to the release of Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Now, the Menendez brothers’ have had their first court appearance in decades this past Monday.
Erik and Lyle’s attorneys have asked a judge to reconsider the convictions of the brothers, who are in the midst of serving life sentences without parole after they were convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.
Through the teleconferenced court hearing, defense attorney Mark Geragos asked the judge to resentence the Menendez brothers on the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter – a crime in which they have already served three times the maximum sentence.
Monday’s status hearing was expected to confirm details for the resentencing hearing scheduled for Dec. 11, but during the hearing, a judge postponed taking up their resentencing bid until Jan. 30. They face issues with new tough-on-crime DA who takes office in January and is likely to be less sympathetic to their cause.
