Lupita Nyong’o And Michael B. Jordan To Star In ‘Black Panther’ Movie

The cast for Marvel Studios’ standalone Black Panther movie was announced at Comic-Con in San Diego, California over the weekend.

Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios head, revealed the big-name cast for Black Panther Saturday night. While it was already known that Chadwick Boseman would be reprising the part of the titular Black Panther, which he debuted in Captain America: Civil War, it was the first time the other stars were revealed.

Starring alongside Boseman in Black Panther will be Creed‘s Michael B. Jordan, 12 Years a Slave‘s Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira, who plays Michonne on AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Jordan has been tapped to play Erik Killmonger in Black Panther, while Nyong’o will play Nakia, and Gurira will inhabit the part of Okoye. In the Marvel Universe, Naki and Okoye are a part of the Dora Milaje, who hail from Wakanda and serve as the Black Panther’s bodyguards.

“One of the most amazing things about Wakanda is they have these women who are the best fighters in the kingdom,” director Ryan Coogler said at Comic-Con.

The Black Panther standalone film is slated to hit theaters July 6, 2018. Filming will commence next January.
