Luke Wilson & Golfer Bill Haas Involved In Fatal Car Crash

Luke Wilson and golfer Bill Haas were involved in a fatal car accident at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 13.

LUKE WILSON & BILL HAAS INVOLVED IN CAR ACCIDENT

Wilson was driving his Toyota SUV when he was struck by a Ferrari that had just veered from a collision with a BMW. The actor was uninjured in the crash, but Haas, who was riding in the Ferrari, was initially reported as being badly hurt. He and a 50-year-old woman at the scene were taken to the hospital. The driver of the Ferrari, Mark Gibello, 71, was a close friend and trainer of Haas’s and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Golf Channel described Gibello as “‘instrumental’ in bringing the Walker Cup (2017) and U.S. Open (2023) to Los Angeles Country Club, according to Golf Channel insider Tim Rosaforte.”

At this time, it is unclear who is to blame for the accident. The Los Angeles Police Department is launching an investigation. Detective Jeff Fisher of the LAPD said on local TV station KTLA that Wilson was doing fine. “I can confirm Luke Wilson was driving the vehicle, the Toyota FJ that was traveling northbound. His vehicle just basically got clipped by the Ferrari,” Fisher said. “Mr Bill Haas was the passenger in the Ferrari. Apparently, from what I was told, he’s doing OK too.”

Since the crash, Haas has been released from the hospital. His father, Jay Haas, told the Golf Channel that his son suffered no broken bones but is experiencing pain and swelling in his leg. “Bill was very fortunate,” he said.

The golfer was signed up to contest in this week’s PGA Tour event, the Genesis Open, but has withdrawn from the competition due to the crash. “Last night in Pacific Palisades, California, Bill Haas was involved in a serious car accident in which the driver – a member of the family with whom Haas and his family were staying for the Genesis Open – was killed,” said Haas’s agent Allen Hobbs in a statement. “While Bill escaped serious injuries and has been released from the hospital, he is understandably shaken up and – more importantly – his deepest condolences go out to the host family during this tragic and difficult time.”
