Luke Bryan To Sing National Anthem At 2017 Super Bowl

Luke Bryan, the country star, will be the performer of the national anthem at the Super Bowl LI. The news was announced on Sunday by FOX and the NFL.

Bryan took to Twitter to share the good news, writing: “Excited to perform the National Anthem on @NFL’s biggest stage #SB51. See y’all in Houston,” and posted a video.

For those unfamiliar with Bryan, here are a few interesting tidbits about the country star.

He was born in the town of Leesburg, Georgia, and was the youngest of three children. He married his college sweetheart, Caroline Boyer, whom he met in 1998 while attending Georgia Southern University. They married in 2006 and now have two sons, Thomas and Tatum Bryan.

When Bryan’s sister died unexpectedly in 2007, and her husband died in 2014, their son Tilden was orphaned. Bryan and his wife took Tilden in and are raising him with their two sons. Bryan later dedicated his hit single, “Drink a Beer,” to his deceased kin.

Bryan now sees his upcoming Super Bowl gig as an opportunity to serve his country. In a recent interview, Bryan said, “I never served in the military — that’s something I wish I had had the opportunity to do. But I feel like this is my way of honoring my country. It’s a little chance to serve.”

Viewers can catch this act of patriotism on Sunday, Feb. 5. This year, the Super Bowl will take place at the NRG Stadium in Houston, and will be Bryan’s debut performance at the game.
