LUIS FONSI BIOGRAPHY: CAREER

Fonsi’s career launched with his 1998 debut album, Comenzare. His sixth album, released in 2006, gained him international attention. 2009’s Palabras del Silencio also aced and spent time on the charts.

Fonsi released “Despacito” featuring Daddy Yankee in January 2017. The song topped nearly every Latin Billboard chart while its music video reached over five billion views on YouTube. Justin Bieber joined the party in an English remix that dropped in April 2017. This remix zoomed up the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, chilling there for nearly six months. Fonsi’s song broke six Guinness World Records and bagged various music awards.

Since the release of “Despacito,” Fonsi’s 10th album, “Vida,” has been the recipient of international success. He has also released hit singles such as “Echame la Culpa” with Demi Lovato and “Baby,” a collaboration with Clean Bandit.

In 2019, Fonsi joined the first Spanish season of La Voz on Telemundo alongside Wisin, Alejandra Guzman and Carlos Vives.

LUIS FONSI: PERSONAL LIFE

Fonsi found love with Adamari Lopez in 2003. The two Puerto Ricans somehow constantly found themselves near each other. When Fonsi released his song, “Abrazar la vida,” Lopez named it as one of her favorites.

Fonsi abruptly halted his tour for Lopez after she received a cancer diagnosis. Fonsi faithfully stayed by her side through her travels for treatment and work.

They tied the knot in June 2006 and divorced in November 2010.

After housemating for three years with Spanish model Agueda Lopez, Fonsi married her in September 2014. Together they have both a daughter and a son.

Luis Fonsi’s philanthropic work has reached the heart of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a pediatric cancer research and treatment center, founded in 1962.

In an exclusive interview with uInterview, Fonsi discusses how he first became involved with the hospital and research center.

“It was in the early 2000s, I think…my first collaboration, if we will; it was a Gala that I got invited to perform in,” he says. “That’s when I started to understand what St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was about. Later, I got to visit the hospital in Memphis. I think it was around 2006 to 2007 for a big conference and they gave me a tour. That’s when I just…became connected…I really just understood what their mission was…Finding cure[s], saving lives.”

Fonsi recalls, “I told them right then and there, ‘What can I do? Can I use my voice, can I use my music to just really be a part of this mission, and use my platform to invite people to help?'”

Fonsi reflects on his time when he worked with the hospital, “A lot of these kids I met when they were very, very young…all of a sudden I see them three, four, five, six years later, and they’ve grown up: long hair, full of life, [and] you know and that’s the true example of what St. Jude does, and it’s amazing to see how they stay involved with St. Jude. A lot of the patients, you know, they go back and they work for St. Jude or they become involved in their different campaigns – and that just goes to show that you know while they were going through a tough time, they saw the magic – if you will – of this place that really saved their lives and is saving lives every day.”

Fonsi rallies viewers, “There are kids, there are families who are going through it as we speak, and it’s got to be tough during the holiday season, so you know, remind them to go out there and [donate to St. Jude].”
