If you watched the most recent season of The Bachelorette, there is no way you could have missed the WhaBoom Guy. His exclamations of “WhaBoom” seemed to shake the very foundations of the dating show, at least during the two episodes he appeared in before being sent home by bachelorette Rachel Lindsay.
WhaBoom, known also as Lucas Yancey, recently sat down with uInterview to discuss his experience on the show, his opinion of his fellow contestants, and, of course, his explosive catchphrase.
When Rachel gave the smooth-talking Bryan Abasolo this season’s final rose, many at home seemed irked, citing Bryan’s cool ways as a reason for concern. But Yancey, who spent time with both Rachel and Bryan in person, feels differently.
“Rachel is a very smart girl, as we all know,” Yancey told uInterview exclusively. “I mean, she’s not going to just do something to do it. I feel like she would have been one of the only people to actually be like, ‘If I didn’t get the guy I wanted to get, I’m just going to say I’m not going to get engaged to that guy.’ So I don’t think she’s just doing it.”
He expanded, adding that he really only wants the best for the newly-engaged couple.
“I do think the love is definitely strong, it’s definitely there, and I just really wish them the best.”
But despite Yancey’s peaceful outlook now, while he was on the show, a lot of animosity seemed to be sent his way. Several of his fellow contestants seemed particularly frustrated with his use of his catchphrase.
“The funny thing is, I’ve put [WhaBoom] in so many of my videos and so much of my content on my Instagram or YouTube and I’ve never had one person ever say, ‘Man, that WhaBoom thing sucks, I hate it,’ until ‘The Bachelorette’ came out.”
He also added that one contestant in particular, Dean Unglert, had a hard time understanding the use of the catchphrase.
“I don’t think [Dean] thinks I’m a genuine person just because I have my WhaBoom catchphrase. I’ve been doing WhaBoom my whole life, it’s not like I just came up with it. So it’s part of me, there’s no act. And I think that he felt, along with a few others, that I was putting on a show, an act.
“I was just having fun with the experience and being myself to a larger degree but there was a ton of time where I was just hanging out. You know, I wasn’t just running around the pool screaming ‘WhaBoom’ all day.”
And for those who don’t seem to “get” WhaBoom, Yancey has a word of advice.
“I think the right people get it and the wrong people will learn to get it… or deny the fact that everyone has a little WhaBoom in them.”
