‘Love Actually’ Mini-Sequel Airs On Red Nose Day [VIDEO]

The iconic romantic-comedy Love Actually churned out a mini-reboot for the charity event Red Nose Day.

The mini-sequel is a ten-minute video titled Red Nose Day Actually, and aired on March 24 on BBC One, as part of Red Nose Day 2017.

‘Red Nose Day Actually’ On Red Nose Day

Red Nose Day Actually was created by original writer and director Richard Curtis, for his charity Comic Relief, which he founded in 1985. The special is set 14 years after the original movie, which was released to wide acclaim in 2003.

“I would never have dreamt of writing a [full] sequel to Love Actually,” explained Curtis, “but I thought it might be fun to do ten minutes to see what everyone is now up to.”

Unsurprisingly, it’s a play on the famous “To me, you are perfect” cue-card sequence that was so beloved in the original film. This time around, the cast jokes about which one of them has aged the best, with Liam Neeson insisting it’s him.

Most of the original cast have signed up to rejoin the performance in the mini-sequel. The cast list includes Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Keira Knightley, Colin Firth, Andrew Lincoln, Bill Nighy, Rowan Atkinson, Marcus Brigstocke, Olivia Olson and Game of Thrones star Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

Among those not listed to return include: Martin Freeman, Kris Marshall and Emma Thompson. Of course, Alan Rickman sadly passed away in January 2016.

Emma Freud, director of Red Nose Day Actually and Curtis’s wife, has been posting images from the filming on Twitter.

Fans have been excited due to sightings of Knightley pictured in scenes with Lincoln, hinting that she may have left her on-screen husband for his best friend, who had been head over heels in love with Knightley’s character Juliet.

Red Nose Day is a biennial telethon held in March and is part of Comic Relief, the British charity created to provide aid for the famine in Ethiopia. Red Nose Day alternates with the sister project Sport Relief. For more information on the day, visit the official Red Nose Day site.

The mini-reboot will also be shown in the US on the US equivalent of Red Nose Day, on May 25.
