Disgraced comedian Louis C.K., who admitted to sexual misconduct in 2017, won a Grammy on Sunday for best comedy album, sparking backlash.
He beat out five other comedians, including Kevin Hart, Chelsea Handler and Lewis Black for the award. His special, Sincerely Louis CK, was his first since he took a hiatus after at least five women accused him of sexual misconduct, including masturbating in front of them.
“These stories are true,” he confirmed in a statement. “At the time, I said to myself that what I did was OK because I never showed a woman my d–k without asking first, which is also true. But what I learned later in life, too late, is that when you have power over another person, asking them to look at your d–k isn’t a question. It’s a predicament for them. The power I had over these women is that they admired me. And I wielded that power irresponsibly.”
Although he confirmed the accusations, he was never charged with any crime. He was exiled for a while, but less than a year later, he was back on stage.
Writer, producer and director Sarah Ann Masse who was a Harvey Weinstein accuser penned a tweet asking why sexual abusers are still able to work in Hollywood.
Producer Carina Adly MacKenzie also chimed in, “Louis CK just won a Grammy, in case you were still crying about cancel culture.”
