Loud-Music Trial Verdict: Michael Dunn Found Guilty Of First Degree After Killing Teen Over Loud Music

Michael Dunn was found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jordan Davis in 2012.

Loud-Music Trial Verdict: Michael Dunn Guilty

Dunn was convicted on the first-degree murder charge on Wednesday after the jury deliberated for five hours, reported CNN. In addition to the murder conviction, Dunn was also convicted on three counts of attempted murder for firing shots at Davis’s friends – Leland Brunson, Tommie Stornes and Tevin Thompson – who had been in the car with him on the night of his tragic death.

In reaction to the verdict, Davis’ mother said, "Words cannot express our joy but also our great sorrow because … we know that Jordan has received his justice," adding, "We know that Jordan's life and legacy will live on for others, but at the same time, we're very saddened by the life that Michael Dunn will continue to live. We are saddened for his family, for his friends and the community that will continue to suffer by his actions."

Back in February, a jury had deadlocked over whether or not to find Dunn guilty of first-degree murder for Davis’ death.

In November 2012, Dunn had gotten into an argument with Davis outside of a Jacksonville, Fla., convenience store over loud music. Dunn fired his gun 10 times at the SUV that Davis and his friends were sitting in outside the store. He claimed that he shot in self-defense and believed that Davis had a gun, though no gun ever turned up.

Dunn faces life in prison for the murder charge. He also faces a minimum of 25 years to life for using a firearm. The sentencing trial is expected to take place Oct. 17.
