A nude scene of Marilyn Monroe with Clark Gable from the 1961 film The Misfits was found this week.
On Sunday, Deadline reported that Charles Casillo — a writer who was conducting research for his forthcoming book Marilyn Monroe: The Private Life of a Public Icon — found the scene, which had been believed to be destroyed. In fact, a producer named Curtice Taylor had conserved the footage since 1999 because he considered it to be groundbreaking. Taylor is the son of Frank Taylor, who produced The Misfits.

In the scene, Monroe drops a bed sheet that was covering her body. This would have marked one of the first nude scenes in a major Hollywood film.
The Misfits director John Huston reportedly thought the scene could be scrapped from the final version of the drama film, which was written by Monroe’s then husband Arthur Miller. The movie is about three cowboys competing for the love of a beautiful woman.
Monroe was known as one of the biggest actresses, singers and sex symbols of the 1950s and 60s. She died of a drug overdose at age 36 in 1962. Among her other famous movies were How to Marry a Millionaire and Some Like it Hot.
It remains unclear whether the discovered scene will be used for a specific purpose.
