Lost Mrs. Doubtfire scenes that Matthew Keys recently posted on YouTube are renewing the national mourning for the late Robin Williams.
The film is considered one of Williams’ best works, as it combines brilliant comedy with the pain of a broken marriage. Before Williams’ death, there had been plans to produce a sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire. The uncovered scenes are emotional ones, resonating strangely with the actor’s long battle with depression.
In one scene his daughter Lydia asks Williams why he can’t just act like he’s happy with his wife, as he is able to act so well as Mrs. Doubtfire. He replies, “We’d be acting. You can’t act 24 hours a day. I’m not that good an actor. Acting, it’s nice, but it’s a job.”
The three deleted scenes would have brought the undercurrent of familial anguish in the light hearted movie to the surface, making the tone of the movie much heavier.
Last year, Williams’ widow said the actor only had “three years left” when he committed suicide, as he came increasingly ill with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia, and he was “living a nightmare.” The video is a reminder of how great of a loss Robin Williams’ s 2014 suicide was.
