Longtime Actor Leslie Jordan Dies At 67 Following L.A. Car Crash

Actor & writer Leslie Jordan, best known for stints on TV shows like Will & Grace and several seasons of American Horror Story, has died at the age of 67.

He reportedly crashed into the side of a building in Hollywood, and it’s believed he suffered some sort of medical episode before the crash.

Along with acclaimed performances on TV, in films like The Help, Jordan was also a playwright, gospel singer, and social media star with five million Instagram followers.

Jordan’s natural energy and charisma boosted his following during the Covid-19 pandemic when people were delighted by his humorous selfie videos filmed in quarantine.

Leslie Allen Jordan was born on April 29, 1955 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. His father died in a military plane crash when Jordan was just eleven, but Jordan has said he was always loved and supported by his mother. In an interview with Philly Magazine in 2014, Jordan looked back with humor at the hardships of growing up as a gay kid in Southern Baptist Tennessee.

“I really wanted to be a good Christian,” Jordan began. “I was baptized 14 times. Every time the preacher would say ‘Come forward, sinners!’ I’d say, ‘Oooh, I was out in the woods with that boy, I better go forward.'”

Jordan first moved to Los Angeles in 1982, where he said he went through a period of intense drug usage. He famously said that he once spent a night in a cell with Robert Downey Jr., and had a later appearance in Ally McBeal where Downey remember where they met.

He found work as a character actor, with a knack for comedy due to his short stature and his pronounced southern drawl. He also has important in some important films for the LGBT community including Sordid Lives, the film based on the play of the same name which Jordan also starred in.

Along with his incredible acting performances and strong playwriting abilities, Jordan also looked inward for autobiographical several solo shows, the most recent one being How Y’all Doing? Misadventures and Mischief from a Life Well Lived in 2021. It’s at least a small comfort to know that Jordan looked back on his life with pride and happiness, even if he was gone too soon in a tragic accident.
