Lois Smith set a record for the oldest person to win a Tony Award on Sunday. The actress won her first trophy for her work as Margaret in The Inheritance at the age of 90.
“I love the processes of live theatre,” Smith said in her acceptance speech. “I first worked on The Inheritance in a workshop where Matthew López was finishing a play about the AIDS plague, and it was partly based on E.M. Forster’s book Howards End, which had been my favorite novel for as long as I can remember.”
The actress is also known for her work in films such as Twister, Ladybird and Minority Report, as well as TV shows: True Blood, The Americans and Ray Donovon.
