Lizzy Caplan Talks 'Masters Of Sex,' Nudity, Threesomes

Lizzy Caplan stars opposite MIchael Sheen in Showtime's new series Masters of Sex as Virginia Johnson to Sheen's William Masters. Caplan recently dished about her new show and how she feels about getting naked on camera.

In the 1950s, Johnson and Masters teamed up to learn anything and everything they could about human sexuality. After acknowledging that women had received much or all of the blame for sex issues within a marriage, Caplan went on to reveal how her character and Sheen’s changed the scientific thinking behind sexual relations in an interview with GQ.

"They basically figured out that the female body is far better equipped for sex than the male body,” Caplan said. “Women can have multiple orgasms; men cannot. They're actually the sexual athletes, not the men."

Throughout the course of the series, it’s to be expected that there will be even more nudity than has become customary on premium channels. Due to its subject matter, Masters of Sex will easily outdo shows known (among other things) for their racy scenes like Game of Thrones and True Blood. Caplan, of course, as Masters' assistant, has to strip down a fair amount herself. When asked about what that’s like, the 31-year-old actress dubbed the question pedestrian.

“I feel like I've answered that question a thousand times," Caplan observed, adding that she doesn’t see the point in answering once again "about nudity and being nude on set and how am I comfortable with that and what do I think about people on the street who have seen me do that."

Caplan was, however, more than happy to answer whether or not she’d be flattered if approached for a threesome. “If a woman said to me, ‘Hey missy, you look like ménage a trois material,’ yes I would find that flattering. If a man said that to me, I would be offended,” she deadpanned. “It’s a double standard.”

Masters of Sex will premiere on Showtime Sunday, Sept. 29 at 10/9c.
