Out of fear of catching COVID-19, actress Liv Tyler has quit Fox’s 911: Lone Star. Though she had had a multi-year contract, she asked to get let out after just one season.
Tyler has expressed concerns about the pandemic before – at its start in April, she made in Instagram post about how coronavirus had flipped the world upside-down.
Now, the star has left the first-responder drama since the show is shot in the United States, and she fears flying back and forth between her home in the U.K. and the filming locations. The U.S. also currently has the highest total coronavirus cases and deaths in the world.
Tyler’s character, Michelle Blake, will not be recast or killed off. In a statement by the showrunner, Tim Minear, it was announced that her story has simply come to a close.
“What a thrill it was having a movie star of Liv Tyler’s stature to help us launch the first season of 9-1-1: Lone Star,” Minear said. “We loved working with Liv and will be forever indebted to her for her haunting, powerful portrayal of Michelle Blake. While we were able to tell a complete chapter in Michelle’s story, as with Connie Britton on our mothership, we also feel like there are more stories to be told. The door here will always be open for a return.”
