Little Richard in 1957
Little Richard, a pioneer of early rock ‘n’ roll, died on Saturday at 87. Richard’s son, Danny Jones Penniman, confirmed his death. The cause of death was bone cancer.
The rock ‘n’ roll pioneer had his biggest hits in the late 1950s, including his iconic “Good Golly Miss Molly,” which topped the charts in 1958.
Many influential artists – The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Elton John – have cited him as their inspiration. The pioneer was named into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
Many have paid tribute to one if rock’s founding fathers, including the former Beatles and the fellow Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Ringo Starr.
“God bless little Richard, one of my all-time musical heroes. Peace and love to all his family,” he wrote on Twitter.
Richard is survived by his son, Danny Jones Penniman.
