Justin Timberlake is back behind the mic with his new single “Suit & Tie,” featuring Jay-Z, from his upcoming album 20/20 Experience. After a slow, 46-second introduction with Timberlake’s voice and some brass, the song picks up into a catchy, eclectic tune.
Timberlake’s return to music (it’s been seven years since FutureSex/LoveSounds) has been much-hyped. He recently addressed fans in an open letter on his website.
“The inspiration for this really came out of the blue and to be honest, I didn’t expect anything out of it,” the letter reads. “I just went into the studio and started playing around with some sounds and songs. It was probably the best time I’ve had in my career… Just creating with no rules and/or end goal in mind and really enjoying the process.
Leading up to the single Timberlake, 31, also filmed a short video about his distance from music, citing the amount of energy he requires of himself when he gets involved with the project as one of the reasons he hasn’t recorded music with factory-like production.
Of course, it’s not like Timberlake spent the last seven years twittling his thumbs. He’s appeared in such major feature films as Alpha Dog, Shrek the Third, The Social Network, Bad Teacher, Friends with Benefits, In Time and Trouble with the Curve. He’s also won four Emmy Awards and, lest we forget, just got married to Jessica Biel.
