Bob Dylan released a 17-minute song on Thursday night called “Murder Most Foul” about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
The somber song is Dylan’s first in eight years; his last album was Tempest released in 2012.
In “Murder Most Foul,” Dylan speak-sings over a simple and slow piano, fiddle, bass and drums. The lyrics start off talking about the murder of Kennedy, but expand to a seemingly mournful remembrance of the 1960’s in general.

“They mutilated his body and they took out his brain/ What more could they do they piled on the pain/ But his soul was not there where it was supposed to be at/ For the last 50 years they’ve been searching for that,” he sings around the six-minute mark.
“Greetings to my fans and followers with gratitude for all your support and loyalty across the years,” Dylan wrote in a note to fans on Twitter. “This is an unreleased song we recorded a while back that you might find interesting. Stay safe, stay observant and may God be with you.”
Dylan is set to go on tour across America in June and July with Nathaniel Rateliff &The Night Sweats and Hot Club of Cowtown. It is unclear if the tour will be canceled in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
