Lionel Messi is facing a major financial loss after finding out that his Spanish hotel is now set to be torn down.
Messi’s Barcelona luxury hotel has been slapped with a court order for its demolition after the 77-bedroom building was found to fail to meet city standards.
The Argentine soccer star had bought the building back in 2017 for $35 million.
Messi didn’t know, however, that Sitges Town Hall had already approved the building for demolition before he had even purchased it.
The order for demolition stems from the hotel’s balconies being too large – if the owners attempt to make it smaller, the building could collapse. Messi was also informed that the hotel’s fire emergency plan failed to meet the correct standards.
The athlete now resides in Paris, having left Barcelona over two decades ago. He recently made his debut with Paris-St-Germain, giving the match the title of the most-watched French match in Spain.
