Linkin Park & Chester Bennington Filmed ‘Carpool Karaoke’ One Week Before Singer’s Death

Chester Bennington, the lead singer and frontman for the rock band Linkin Park, tragically died last week when he committed suicide at the age of 41. While the singer’s death has caused many of his friends, family, and fans pain, it has also put a halt on all promotion of the band’s recently released seventh studio album One More Light.

A week before Bennington died, Linkin Park filmed an episode for the upcoming Carpool Karaoke, a spinoff series of The Late Late Show with James Corden‘s viral music segment. The series, produced by James Corden and distributed by Apple Music, is set to premiere on August 8. Linkin Park’s episode was originally set to air in October although there has been no word on whether or not the episode will go on.

Linkin Park’s official Twitter account shared an image of the band after filming last week. Bennington can be seen smiling on the left.

“Fun day with @kenjeong @CarpoolKaraoke @AppleMusic – stay tuned,” reads the caption of the image.

Ken Jeong, the host of Linkin Park’s episode, took to Twitter on July 20, the day Bennington died, to share his condolences. The Carpool episode had been filmed six days earlier.

“I am in shock and heartbroken. All my thoughts and prayers go out to Chester and his family and friends at this time,” Jeong wrote.

In the wake of Bennington’s death, Linkin Park has cancelled their upcoming One More Light tour, which was originally scheduled to begin this week.

The band posted a letter to their late lead singer on their website early Monday morning.

“Our hearts are broken. The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened,” the letter began.

“Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing. We’re trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal. After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place. You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human.”

The letter ended with a word about the future.

“Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable. While we don’t know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you. Thank you for that gift. We love you, and miss you so much.”

The L.A. County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Monday that Bennington died by hanging.

Error happened.
