Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who recently entered the 2016 presidential race, welcomed Caitlyn Jenner to the Republican Party Sunday.

Lindsey Graham On Caitlyn Jenner

Graham appeared on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday to talk about his presidential campaign, and weighed in on Jenner not only coming out as a transgender woman, but also as a Republican during her sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer earlier this year.

“If Caitlyn Jenner wants to be safe and have a prosperous economy, vote for me,” said Graham, soliciting Jenner’s vote. “I’m into addition. I haven’t walked into her shoes. I don’t have all the answers to the mysteries of life. I can only imagine the torment that Bruce Jenner went through. I hope she has found peace.”

“I’m a pro-life, traditional marriage kind of guy. But I’m running to be president of the United States,” Graham added. “If Caitlyn Jenner wants to be a Republican, she is welcome in my party. We’re all in this together.”

Further clarifying his positions on social issues, Graham reiterated that he toes the party line when it comes to matters of abortion and same-sex marriage. However, also courting those that fall to the left of him on social issues, Graham believes he might be able to win over fiscal conservatives.

“Understanding what you’re getting with Lindsey Graham: I’m pro-life. I believe in traditional marriage without animosity,” said Graham. “The courts are going to rule, probably in June, about traditional marriage. I will accept the court’s decision. I will proudly defend the unborn. But if we can’t agree on abortion, let’s talk about taxes.”

In addition to Graham, the Republican field of candidates includes Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Rick Perry, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum and Carly Fiorina.
