Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator and star of hit Broadway show Hamilton, took his final bow on Saturday.
Miranda reportedly made a solo bow, with his hand to his heart, after his performance at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
Fellow castmate Christopher Jackson pushed Miranda to the edge of the stage to receive the full applause and praise from the audience.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda, Rosie O’Donnell, Spike Lee, Charlie Rose and Mariska Hargitay were the popular figures in attendance.
Rose called the performance “a majestic moment in the history of theater” and historian Ron Chernow, who helped Miranda turn Hamilton’s story into a musical, remained surprised at the show’s success.
“Well, I think it’s safe to say that when I was writing the book I never imagined that it would be turned into a musical,” Chernow said. “The show has such universal appeal, it really delights me how he’s [Miranda] taken the book and really amplified it and appealed to such a mass audience.”
Miranda was later seen waving to fans on the balcony outside the theater — as he said ‘thank you’ to the crowds that gathered below him.
Miranda will next star opposite Emily Blunt in Disney’s sequel to Mary Poppins, and he wrote music for the upcoming animated Disney film Moana.
