Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Pulitzer Prize winning actor, composer, writer and rapper, is just one Oscar win away from getting an EGOT — the winning combination of having been awarded with an Emmy, a Grammy, and Oscar, and a Tony.
Miranda received his long-awaited Oscar nomination Tuesday morning, with Moana‘s “How Far I’ll Go” competing for Best Original Song.
If Miranda were to take home the prize, he’ll not only have accomplished an EGOT, but he’ll be the youngest person to do so (at age 37) and will have done it the fastest (in less than a decade).
Here’s a rundown of Miranda’s past awards:
Tony: Miranda’s first win in the EGOT string of awards. He won his first Tony in 2008 for Best Original Score in In the Heights. In 2016, he took home two more Tonys for Hamilton, for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
Grammy: He has two Grammys, the first for Best Musical Theater Album in 2009 for In the Heights, and then in 2016, he received the same award for Hamilton.
Emmy: He won the 2014 Emmy Awards for his work on the 2013 Tony Awards, and received the Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics.
Now all he needs is an Oscar win. The only thing standing between him and that cherished Oscar is a little film called La La Land, and its unforgettable song “City of Stars.”
La La Land did exceptionally well at this year’s Oscars, pulling in a record-tying 14 nominations. This puts it up in the same ranks as classic hits like Titanic and All About Eve. Needless to say, this puts a lot of pressure on Miranda’s song in Moana, a film that was nominated for two Oscars this year.
Thankfully, we won’t be kept in suspense for long. The Oscars will air on Feb. 26 on ABC.
