Lil Wayne was in critical condition Friday night, after suffering his second seizure this week.

Although Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter, is rumored to still be in poor health, his music label was quick to announce that he was doing okay and would be watching basketball last night. At 9:28 p.m. Friday the hip-hop artist took to his personal Twitter page to assure his fans that he was alright.

“I’m good everybody,” he wrote. “Thx for the prayers and love.”

On Tuesday, Lil Wayne was rushed to a hospital in Los Angeles after suffering a series of seizures. He was released the following day. Later on Wednesday, he was found unconscious and was once again taken to the hospital, according to TMZ.

While initially the report went unconfirmed, a publicist from Lil Wayne’s record label affirmed that he had in fact suffered a seizure to CNN. However, many who are close to the rapper took to Twitter to contradict claims that the music star had been in a medically induced coma, and to insist that he was recuperating.

Yet, not all of Lil Wayne’s entourage is convinced that he’s good health. One of the members of his camp isn’t so quick to believe that Wayne’s seizure episodes aren’t much to be worried about. “He’s had those seizure a few times this year already and they are scary as hell when they happen,” a friend of Wayne’s told the Daily Beast. “He can’t stop shaking when they happened and you don’t know what to do. No one seems to know what it is but it ain’t good. We know that.”

Lil Wayne notoriously used and abused “syrup” – a mixture of promethazine and codeine often prescribed for people with bad coughs that’s a popular way to get high in the Deep South. It’s possible, Wayne’s friend told the Daily Beast, that although he allegedly quit the stuff in 2010, it could be negatively impacting his health.

“He did that stuff for a long time and I’m not sure when he stopped,” a friend said. “Who knows what impact it had on his health long term? Everybody is different in how the stuff hits them and if you do it for a along time who’s to say it won’t mess your system up in all kinds of ways? We just don’t know right now.”
