Lil Peep Cause Of Death: Rapper Dies Of Suspected Overdose At 21

New York rapper Lil Peep has died of a suspected overdose. He was 21.

The rapper, born Gustav Åhr, was known for his emotional tracks, which often detailed his depression and drug use. According to his manager Adam Grandmaison, Åhr was taken to the hospital after a drug overdose. He had just posted a video online, hours before his death, in which he said he’d taken prescription drugs and other substances, and added, “I’m good, I’m not sick.”

He also posted a photo just one day ago with the caption, “When I die You’ll love me.” On another video, he captioned, “I just wana be everybody’s everything I want too much from people but then I don’t want anything from them at the same time u feel me I don’t let people help me but I need help but not when I have my pills but that’s temporary one day maybe I won’t die young and I’ll be happy? What is happy I always have happiness for like 10 seconds and then it’s gone. I’m getting so tired of this.” And on the same day, he posted a photo of himself dancing, saying he had just taken “honey and shrooms.”

The rap world is paying tribute to the young star. “Peep had so much more to do man he was constantly inspiring me. I dont feel good man,” wrote Diplo on Twitter. “I can’t believe this. We were just talking last week about working on a song together and now you’re gone. You will be missed, R.I.P. @Lilpeep,” said rapper Marshmello in a series of tweets. “Peep was the nicest person. hanging out with him, talking to him about music, the song ideas we were going to do together and touring was so amazing. Everyone will miss you man… Don’t wait until someone’s gone to tell them how much you love them, forgive and forget any issues with those you care about and realize that we all are only here for a limited amount of time.. I love you all very much and I’m here for every single one of you guys.”

Åhr released his debut album Come Over When You’re Sober (Part One) last August, but he had caught the industry’s attention long before. He blended cold trap production with emotional lyrics, and earned a following through a string of self-released mix tapes prior to his album. He also gained looks because of his eclectic dress style and multitude of tattoos, including ones on his face and neck. In addition to rapping, Åhr gained a following in the fashion world, as he walked the catwalk for many fashion shows.

Sarah Stennett, CEO of First Access Entertainment, which partnered with Åhr last year, released a statement about his death. “I am shocked and heartbroken. I do not believe Peep wanted to die, this is so tragic,” she wrote. “He had huge ambition and his career was flourishing … I have spoken to his mother and she asked me to convey that she is very, very proud of him and everything he was able to achieve in his short life.”
