Angry Christian protestors showed up to Lil Nas X‘s Sunday night show in Boston, and the chart-topping rapper reacted in the most Lil Nas X way possible.
When a fan first tweeted a video of the homophobic group near MGM Music Hall, the “Industry Baby” performer responded in his signature playful fashion. “Just told my team to send them pizza,” he wrote. “This is really good promo!”
He wasn’t joking about the pizza, though — his team did actually offer some slices to the protestors, but they declined.
Nas kept his fans updated on the situation with a hilarious video that features one protestor in particular: a man sporting a black “Christ’s Forgiveness Ministries Revival” T-shirt… who is apparently the musician’s type.
In the clip, there’s a several-second zoom-in and slow-motion footage of this protestor. Another layer of absurdity is the “Mystery of Love” Sujan Stevens audio playing in the background.
The Grammy winner captioned the video, “Update: They didn’t want the pizza but I accidentally fell in love with one of my homophobic protestors.”
Nas also joked in his comments section on TikTok, “I can change him.”
TikTok user @pawbrey wrote, “That guy saw you and second guessed his side of the fence.” Thousands of other fans echoed that sentiment and contributed their own variety of funny takes.
It’s not all that surprising that Nas managed to turn hate into brilliant, satirical content again. He’s known at this point for turning hate into humor and power.
In March 2021, he released a controversial music video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” that responded to the homophobia targeted toward him, and unfortunately, also inspired more. The popular video features a plethora of biblical imagery, and a scene where Nas intimately dances with the devil before becoming the devil himself.
The wave of backlash didn’t phase him too much.
“I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the sh-t y’all preached would happen to me because I was gay,” the singer tweeted at the time. “So I hope you are mad. Stay mad. Feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.”
Lil Nas X haters only ever seem to inspire more genus social media content and more iconic lyrics from him.
