‘The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical’ Theater Review: High Energy Rocks Mt. Olympus

A new production of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical opened at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York’s West Village on April 4. Thief stars Chris McCarrell (Les Miserables) as Jackson who discovers new powers on his search for Zeus’s lightning bolt in an effort to prevent a war between the gods. The innovative rock show, which originally launched in a 2014 theater workshop and enjoyed a successful national run, features a new score and expanded cast including a live band on stage. McCarrell handles the demi-god duties with aplomb providing a strong vocal performance and winning stage presence.Thief  is everything a rock musical should be: high-energy fun for the family.
