Apparently riding motorcycles through Instanbul’s Grand Bazaar and leading frantic car chases in vintage Aston Martins didn’t qualify James Bond, err, Daniel Craig, for a New York State driver’s license. No, Craig, 44, like the rest of us, had to go through all the normal hoops of obtaining a driver’s license.
“No one is exempt, regardless of who you are,” Richard Fernandez of the Professional Driving School of the Americas in Manhattan, told the New York Post’s Page Six.
As per New York State law, hopeful drivers need to take a written test, attend a five-hour safety course and pass a road test. Skyfall star Craig attended the class on Sept. 13, and while the thought of taking driver’s ed with James Bond would have no doubt sent people into a frenzy, Craig was afforded the courtesy of taking a private class. “He was such a nice dude, so friendly,” Fernandez added of Craig.
After completing the course, Craig passed his road test in Staten Island, which means things must have turned out better than, well, anytime James Bond gets behind the wheel.
Earning his license is perhaps the biggest event of Craig’s year, well, other than anchoring the most successful James Bond film of all time. Skyfall, which was released on Nov. 8, has made nearly $800 million worldwide. It stars Craig, along with Judi Dench as M, Javier Bardem as the villain Raoul Silva, as well as Ralph Fiennes, Naomi Harris and Ben Whishaw.
