Leslie Jones Speaks Out Against Racism On Twitter

Leslie Jones, the star of the recent Ghostbusters film reboot, has been facing racist attacks on Twitter since the film’s premiere. On Monday, Jones took to Twitter to finally fight back against her racist critics.

Leslie Jones Fires Back At Racist Attacks On Twitter

Jones retweeted and posted numerous racists remarks that have been sent to her on Twitter — many included pictures of monkeys, referring to her as an ape, a gorilla, or just calling her ugly.

“Exposing,” the actress wrote, pulling up the hateful posts. “I hope y’all go after them like they going after me.”

“It’s like when you think “ok I’ve proven I’m worthy” then you get hit with a shovel of (hatred),” Jones tweeted. “I’m numb…I’m not stupid to not know racism exists. And I know it will probably live on way after me. But we have to make people take responsibility…for the hate they spew. We have to stand up to it.”

Ghostbusters director Paul Feig stood up for the actress. “Leslie Jones is one of the greatest people I know. Any personal attacks against her are attacks against us all,” Feig wrote, as the hashtag #LoveForLeslieJ began trending on Twitter.

Jones even felt the need to call out Twitter on letting users get away with posting hateful tweets.

“Twitter I understand you got free speech I get it. But there has to be some guidelines when you let (hate) spread like that…It’s not enough to freeze Acct. They should be reported,” Jones tweeted.

Jones made it clear she was hurt by the attacks, urging people to understand that she’s only human — like everyone else.

“As much as you want to thinks actors ain’t human I want to give you something to think about,” Jones wrote. “I work off pure passion for this game. I’ve never claim to be better or special. I just try to do my job as best as I can. Isn’t that any of us yall. So Yea this hurts me!”
