Leonardo DiCaprio cracked a few jokes while waiting anxiously to get his hands on his engraved Oscar statue.
After accepting his first Oscar for his portrayal of frontiersman Hugh Glass in The Revenant, DiCaprio had to stand by as the award’s plaque was engraved with his name. The repeat-nominee seemed eager to have the trophy in his hands, but was more than happy to wait for the engravers to do their job. When one apologized for the delay, he told her, “Don’t worry about it take your time.”
Observing the process, DiCaprio asked, “Do you do this every year?” before quipping, “I wouldn’t know.”
Along with the trophy, DiCaprio was given a card with care instructions for the most sought after prize in Hollywood. “How to take care of it? I have to maintain it? What does it need?” DiCaprio asked with amusement, leading someone to joke that he needed to give it regular water.
DiCaprio was first nominated for an Oscar back in 1994 for his performance in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape alongside Johnny Depp. Over 10 years later, he was nominated again for The Aviator (2005). More nominations followed for Blood Diamond (2007) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2014).
