Leonardo DiCaprio Named As Witness In Pras Michel’s Money Laundering Case

Pras Michel, a rapper known as a member of the group The Fugees, is going to have to be “Ready Or Not” for a trial in federal court where he is charged with campaign finance conspiracy to secure foreign campaign donations for an unaware United States presidential candidate, suspected to be Barack Obama when he was running in 2012.

Michel’s partner is this scheme was reportedly Jho Low, a Malaysian businessman who is currently internationally wanted for his crimes.

He reportedly secured the donation money by laundering from the country’s sovereign investment fund: 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Low is accused of lining his pockets with as much as $4.5 billion in money from 1MDB which was diverted around the world by other co-conspirators. The U.S. Department of Justice called this scam the “largest kleptocracy case to date.”

Interestingly, another celebrity is involved in this trial as a witness, and that would be The Wolf of Wall Street star Leonardo DiCaprio. It is suspected that some of the laundered funds ended up going to finance Hollywood projects, one of which being Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed dark crime comedy.

Given its subject matter being about rich scumbags who manipulated the U.S. economy in immoral and illegal ways to boost their own profits, knowing it was created partially thanks to other financial crimes is pretty humorous.

It isn’t yet confirmed whether DiCaprio will definitely be called to testify in this trial, but he is one of 72 named witnesses that the prosecution may call. Michel’s trial begins on November 4. He was also indicted last June on an additional charge for assisting in secret lobbying campaign to get Jho Low’s case dropped by the Donald Trump administration.
