Bronny James, son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, was rushed to the hospital on Monday after suffering cardiac arrest during a basketball workout.

A 911 call was made from the University of Southern California’s Galen Center around 9:30 a.m. James was taken by ambulance to the hospital and is currently stable.

“Yesterday while practicing, Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest,” a spokesman said in a statement to TMZ. “The medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU. We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update the media when there is more information.”

The spokesperson added that “LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes.”

James is following in his father’s footsteps as a rising basketball talent. He was a McDonald’s All-American player during his high school senior season and recently committed to the Trojans. He is expected to end up in the NBA.

James’ medical scare is reminiscent of Shareef O’Neal’s back in 2018. Shaquille O’Neal’s son dealt with a heart issue during his teenage basketball years and needed surgery to repair the abnormality.

Though it is unclear whether James’ condition is as serious, O’Neal will likely be a shoulder for him to lean on during his recovery.
