LeBron James’ Son, Bronny, ‘Doesn’t Give A F—‘ About NBA Nepotism Criticism, Dad Says

As Bronny James begins his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, his father and teammate, LeBron James, offers insight into the rookie’s mindset amid public scrutiny.

Bronny James was drafted 55th overall in the second round and made his Summer League debut last weekend. In 21 minutes of play, he recorded four points, two rebounds and two assists.

Following Bronny’s modest statistical performance, LeBron spoke candidly about his son’s approach to criticism in an interview with ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

“Bronny doesn’t give a f—,” LeBron stated bluntly. “He’s like the complete opposite of his dad.”

LeBron reflected on his own experiences as a rookie, admitting he was more affected by public opinion early in his career. “I actually cared a little bit when I came in,” he said. “I wanted people to like me, and some of the things that people were saying about me kind of bothered me.”

In contrast, LeBron described his son as unfazed by external pressures. “He doesn’t care about nobody. He doesn’t even listen to that stuff,” James explained.

The four-time NBA champion emphasized Bronny’s focus on his craft and personal interests. “Bronny plays, he works his tail off,” LeBron said. “When he’s done, he goes home and plays his video games.”

At 19, Bronny James aims to make NBA history alongside his father as the first father-son duo to play together in the league. LeBron, entering his 22nd season, recently signed a two-year, $104 million max contract extension with the Lakers, which includes a player option for the second year.

The James family’s unique situation has garnered significant attention, with Bronny’s transition to professional basketball under particular scrutiny. LeBron’s comments offer a glimpse into the family’s perspective on handling the spotlight and expectations that come with their high-profile status in the NBA.

As the Lakers prepare for the upcoming season, fans and analysts will watch closely to see how the James duo performs on and off the court. With LeBron’s career winding down and Bronny’s just beginning, their potential partnership represents a compelling storyline in the NBA landscape.
