Leah Remini, who famously left the Church of Scientology in 2013, showed her support for HBO’s documentary on the controversial church – Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief – on Twitter.
“Thank you to the brave who did something about it,” Remini tweeted. “And to those who didn’t have a voice, you do now. #GoingClear.”
Going Clear was first shown to audiences at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. After the showing, the Church of Scientology released an official statement condemning it.
“The accusations made in the film are entirely false and alleged without ever asking the Church,” Scientology officials said in a statement. “The Church is committed to free speech. However, free speech is not a free pass to broadcast or publish false information.”
Going Clear, which gives an inside look at Scientology, was directed by Alex Gibney and adapted from Lawrence Wright‘s book Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief (2013).
Famous Scientologists include Tom Cruise, John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston, Kirstie Alley, Jenna Elfman, Elisabeth Moss and Jason Lee.
