Lea Michele has been cast to play opposite Brandon Michael Hall in a new ABC comedy, leaving fans wondering what will happen to Scream Queens.
Michele was released from her contract with the Fox show to do the series, titled City Mayor and created by Hamilton star Daveed Diggs. The fate of Scream Queens hangs in balance, with a season 3 renewal looking unlikely. The show, however, is set up in a way that would allow for it to continue without Michele’s character.
The new pilot was written by Jeremy Bronson, and centers on a struggling hip-hop artist who runs for mayor as a publicity stunt for his mixtape, but ends up winning the election.
Michele’s character description and information has not been released, but one can imagine it will be music related. She got her start on the Fox TV hit Glee before moving onto Scream Queens. City Mayor comes from ABC Studios and Bluegrass FanFare. Bronson and Diggs will be executive producers.
