Mariska Hargitay, known for her role as Olivia Benson on Law & Order: SVU, suffered recent injuries that warranted a trip to the Hospital for Special Surgery. The actress revealed that she broke her knee, fractured her ankle and tore a ligament in an Instagram post. She did not say how the injuries occurred but did clarify that it was not work-related. Hargitay said, “Just so you know this did not happen at work!”

She is starting the recovery process and fortunately did not need any kind of operation. Hargitay posted a photo of herself leaving HSS with a knee brace on her right leg and a boot on her left ankle.

She captioned the picture, “#ThatFeelingWhen, you go to the doctor, get an MRI and find out that you have a broken knee, a hairline fracture in your ankle, and a torn ligament. It’s always a good idea to go to the doctor. Immediately. #ListenToYourBody #TrustTheExperts#StayStrong #InOtherKneeNews#BustingPerpsWithBustedKnees#BraceYourself #NotTheBeesKnees#TheQueenBeesKnees Great news is I don’t need surgery🙏🏻 💃🏻 #YouShouldSeeTheOtherGuy😜 thanks for all the love folks!
Just so you know this is did NoT happen at work!”

Besides her injuries, Hargitay has also made headlines for surprising an 11-year-old girl named Alyssa on the Today show. Alyssa was at a bus stop playing with slime and blue paint when a man jumped out of his car and attempted to kidnap her. As she fought her attacker off, Alyssa purposely rubbed her blue paint and slime all over him as she thought it would better help police identify him. When the police brought the man in, his arms were covered with the slime. Alyssa said that she had learned to do that from watching Law & Order: SVU. After appearing on the Today show, Hargitay posted about the girl on Instagram.

In the caption Hargitay said, “Alyssa, first and most important, I am so relieved and grateful to know that you are safe. And I am so honored to be part of your incredible story. You are one BRAVE, Strong and Smart young woman. I think the SVU squad might have to add slime to their crimefighting gear! Take good care of yourself and each other. With all my love, your number one fan, Mariska. #Repost @todayshow with @make_repost・・・A crazy story, with an even crazier twist.
