Laverne Cox, Tyler Ford & Miley Cyrus Party At AmfAR Gala

Laverne Cox hung out with Miley Cyrus and her date Tyler Ford at the Moet & Chandon Toasts to the amfAR Inspiration Gala in New York City Tuesday night.

Cyrus, who launched the #instapride campaign through her Happy Hippie Foundation, brought Ford along to the star-studded event. Cyrus selected Ford to be the one to present her with her Inspiration Award from The Foundation for AIDS Research.

Prior to the event, Cyrus introduced Ford to her Instagram followers. “Meet Tyler (@tywrent), a 24 year old living in New York City, and my date for @amfar tonight!!!,” Cyrus wrote. “Tyler is a queer, biracial, agender person, whose pronouns are they/them/theirs. Tyler shares about their identity, experiences and hopes.”

In Ford’s own words, they said, “My whole life, I was led to believe that there were only two genders. I thought I had to shrink myself to fit into a box that was never going to contain me. It took years for me to find words for my gender identity, and to feel comfortable expressing myself as I am.”

Though Cyrus and Ford matched in red and black at the amfAR event, in a photoshoot that took place beforehand, the new friends posed in matching yellow jumpsuits.

Inside the event, after Ford presented Cyrus with her award, they got to take a selfie with Cox, who plays Sophia Burset on Netflix’s hit original series Orange is the New Black.

“This is sooooo MAJOR!!!!!,” Cyrus captioned a snap on Instagram. “Selfie with @tywrent & @lavernecox !!!!!!!!”

Earlier this month, Cyrus revealed that her own gender and sexuality were not as black and white as many may have thought.

“I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age,” Cyrus told Paper magazine. “Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult — anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me.I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”
