Lauryn Hill Welcomes Sixth Baby

Singer Lauryn Hill, 35, best known for her rise to fame as the former frontwoman for The Fugees and her monumentally successful inaugural solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, is also adding to her growing brood of kids. Hill, who joked at a Los Angeles concert in April that she might be “the most fertile woman in America,” had her sixth child, a baby boy, on Saturday, July 23.

While the notoriously private Hill isn’t yet releasing the name of the child, it’s been confirmed that “mother and baby are fine,” though the delivery wasn’t without complications, a source told BlackCelebKids. “The little boy was delivered with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck,” the source said. Now that the scare is over, however, “Everyone is happy.”

Before the delivery room drama, people were speculating about the paternity of Hill’s newest arrival. Hill’s long-term, on-again, off-again partner and son of music legend Boby Marley, Rohan Marley, 39, who fathered Hill’s first five children — Zion David-Nesta Marley, 13, Selah Marley, 12, Joshua Marley, 9, John Marley, 8, and Sarah Marley, 3 — stayed mum on the subject. “I’m forwarding all well wishes to Ms. Hill on the birth of her new son,” he tweeted on Monday. “I’m sure she’ll appreciate the love being sent to her.”

In a previous Twitter exchange with the Houston Chronicle, Marley wasn’t much more help. The reporter asked him, “So we are clear. 1.) You’re not married to your ex-wife or Lauryn, and 2.) She isn’t preggo w/your child, but someone else’s?” Marley evasively tweeted back, “That is correct until I say out of my mouth to the contrary.”
