Singer and rapper Lauryn Hill, 37, who launched her career as the lead singer of the hip-hop group, Fugees, pleaded guilty to charges of federal tax evasion, admitting that she failed to file income tax returns for three years.
Hill, who reportedly earned over an estimated $1.8 million in income over the period, according to USA Today, went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael Shipp on Friday, where she entered her guilty plea. Hill could face up to $75,000 in fines and one year in jail at her sentencing in November.
Hill addressed her problems on her Tumblr page earlier this month, reports Extra. "For the past several years," she said, "I have remained what others would consider underground …. I kept my life relatively simple, even after huge successes, but it became increasingly obvious that certain indulgences and privileges were expected to come at the expense of my free soul, free mind, and therefore my health and integrity."
