Larsa Pippen has spoken up about Michael Jordan’s disapproving comment about her dating his son, Marcus Jordan.
Last week, the NBA legend was recorded saying, “No!” when he was asked if he approved of his son’s relationship with Pippen. Although Michael answered the question with a laugh, many believed it to confirm his disapproval of the couple, who have a 16-year-age gap.
In a podcast released yesterday, Pippen and Marcus addressed the allegations that Michael did not accept their relationship.
To clarify his father’s intentions, Marcus explained that Michael texted him before articles of his statement were published.
“He texted and called me and wanted to make sure that I didn’t take anything the wrong way,” Marcus said. “But then when the article came out, he texted me again and said that he never said, ‘Hell no.'”
Marcus acknowledged Pippen’s nervousness and added that his father’s texts helped her be “more at ease” and proved he was not lying about his parents’ approval. Although Marcus thought the misunderstood situation was “hilarious” and blamed tequila for his father’s answer, Pippen did not see the humor.
“There’s nothing funny about it,” she said.
Marcus then went on to explain that part of the Jordan family DNA was to “talk sh—” because it “motivates them” and that when he first saw the article, his immediate thoughts were that his father was just being playful.
“I don’t want to talk about what he texted me verbatim,” Marcus said. “But I think at the root of what we talked about was, you know, I’m an adult, I can make my own decisions, he doesn’t need to approve who I date or my personal relationships because he’s going to love me no matter what.”
During a discussion of how and when the story went viral, Pippen said that she was “embarrassed” and “traumatized” and thought that people were beginning to think she was lying about both sides of their families being fine with their relationship.
Marcus also said that his father’s goal has always been to “steer clear of [their] relationship” and that the root of the problem is Michael’s relationship with Pippen’s ex-husband, Scottie Pippen, and that there had always been a “narrative” where Marcus was dating Pippen to retaliate. Michael and Scottie were both players for the Chicago Bulls.
Pippen seconded Marcus’ acknowledgment of Michael and Scottie’s rocky friendship. Pippen also has four children with Scottie: Scotty Jr., 22, Preston, 21, Justin, 18 and Sophia, 14.
“I do understand that it’s not awkward for us to be together because it’s us, but it’s probably awkward for my ex and your dad because they have their own relationship,” Pippen said.

Further in the podcast, Pippen said she felt “good” because she and Marcus had talked it out. She also just wanted to make sure that Marcus was “in a good place with [his] family,” adding that she “never want[s] to be a problem with [his] parents.”
“He was making a joke, and it got blown out of proportion and taken not out of context, but I think if you don’t know who my dad is at his core, then it could be taken the wrong way,” Marcus said.
