Larry David impersonation of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Saturday Night Live last Saturday had the audience in stitches..
Saturday Night Live‘s cold open last Saturday was a parody sketch about the CNN Democratic debate, and included Jon Rudnitsky as host Anderson Cooper, Taran Killam as Martin O’Malley, Kyle Mooney as Lincoln Chafee, Alec Baldwin as Jim Webb, Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton and last, but not least, Larry David as Bernie Sanders. David gave a stellar performance of the Independent-turned-Democratic candidate, ranting about bank pens and drying his underpants on a radiator, among other things.
David as Sanders started the debate off by dialing it “right up to a ten.” “We’re doomed!” he shouted. “We need a revolution!” He then discussed the banks, the congregation of geese and how confusing emails are.
David was definitely the best impersonator of the evening, but McKinnon, as always, gave an excellent performance as Clinton. “I think you’re really going to like the Hillary Clinton that my team and I have created for this debate,” McKinnon as Clinton said. As the debate went off the rails, David as Sanders became more and more agitated. “God, it must be fun to scream and cuss in public,” McKinnon as Clinton said in response to his rant about her “damn emails.”
David’s performance is definitely up there with some of the best political impersonations the show has seen, which include Tina Fey as Sarah Palin, Dana Carvey as George H. W. Bush and Phil Hartman as Bill Clinton.
The next episode of SNL airs on Nov. 7 with Donald Trump as host and Sia as musical guest.
