Lara Trump Says She Would ‘Love To Consider’ Succeeding Marco Rubio As Florida’s Next U.S. Senator

President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, declared that she would like to be considered for Sen. Marco Rubio’s successor. Rubio has been nominated as Secretary of State and is expected to win confirmation easily.

“If I am able to serve, I would love to serve the people of Florida,” Lara told Fox News host Sean Hannity on his show.

“This is my home state now and has been for three years,” she added. “This is where [her husband, Eric Trump] and I live and – and truly, to have that opportunity, I think, would be incredible. No one knows better than I do the America First agenda or the goals of Donald Trump for the coming four years. So, if I am asked, I would love to consider it, but I have yet to have a conversation with [Florida] Gov. [Ron] DeSantis.”

If Rubio steps down, DeSantis will have to name a replacement to fill out part of his term.

“Leading the U.S. Department of State is a tremendous responsibility, and I am honored by the trust President Trump has placed in me,” the Florida senator wrote on Nov. 13 following the announcement. “I will work every day to carry out his foreign policy agenda.”

Whoever DeSantis chooses would serve until a 2026 special election.

The Florida governor must decide whether to appoint a “caretaker,” someone who would run to maintain the seat, or even himself.

Rubio received strong support from Republicans and Democrats, unlike several other nominees for attorney general, like Rep. Matt Gatez.

The idea of Lara becoming Florida’s next senator has been met with mixed reactions from X users.

“I’m actually really grateful for everyone who has been pushing for Lara Trump to be appointed Senator of Florida,” one user wrote on the platform. “It is a fast way for me to know who 1. DOESN’T believe in a meritocracy, 2. DOES support political dynasties (like the Clintons & Bushes), 3. DOES deserve to be muted.”

In May, Lara was slammed on social media for declaring during an interview that the presidential debate was “rigged” in President Joe Biden’s favor.

Around the same time, she released a song, “Hero,” which was recorded to honor firemen and police officers who risked their lives for public safety. Many on social media mocked her performance.
