After touring together in 2014, Lana Del Rey and Father John Misty’s J. Tillman have finally made a music video together. Misty stars in Del Rey’s video for her song “Freak” off her most recent album, alongside some familiar souls from her video for “Music to Watch Boys To.”
In the 11-minute video, the two take acid together and Lana does not drink the Kool-Aid as much as she pours it all over herself. Halfway through the video “Freak” fades out to a moment of silence before the music video transitions into some dreamy shots with Debussy’s Clair de Lune.
After the music video screening in Los Angeles, Del Rey said that she was inspired by Tillman’s own experience taking acid. Tillman then revealed to both Del Rey and the audience of the screening, “I took acid at Taylor Swift. I thought this was the best time to tell you.” So inadvertently, Del Rey’s video was inspired by Tillman’s experience taking acid at a Taylor Swift concert in Australia. (Tillman recently did a cover of Swift’s “Blank Space” in the style of the Velvet Underground, satirizing Ryan Adams’ album.)
