Lamar Odom Deactivated By Dallas Mavericks

Khloe Kardashian beau Lamar Odom, 32, was deactivated on Monday by the Dallas Mavericks, who have been vocally displeased with Odom's sub-par performance since they acquired him in 2011 from the Los Angeles Lakers.

"The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it's in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team," said Odom in a statement to ESPN. "I'm sorry that things didn't work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs' organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship."

After Odom played his all-time worst season in his 13-year NBA career, at one point sitting out a game due to Mavericks Coach Rick Carlisle's decision, Carlisle promised that he would "find out very quickly where things are at. He's going to have to show us with his actions and attitude that he's in."

Odom, whose reality show with Kardashian, Khloe & Lamar, was "a very secondary type of thing" in the team's decision to deactivate him, according to Mavericks General Manager Donnie Nelson, will be listed as inactive for the rest of the season and will leave the team immediately, reports The Washington Post. The Mavericks retain rights to trade him after the season in connection with the draft.

In response to the news, friends have rallied around Odom, who has also endured some personal losses this season that include the murder of a family member. Former Lakers teammate and friend Metta World Peace has a plan for Odom to come back to the Lakers. "Maybe he can come back and be a ball boy and then next year, come play. That's what he should do. He'd be the first ball boy in the NBA that can play. Come back, get the towels and next year, play. Why not?" If that doesn't work out, World Peace reasoned, "He should be a scout. Lamar should be a scout."

For Kardashian's part, she seemed to harbor no ill will on behalf of her hubby. "I loved Dallas and will miss it! Xo," she tweeted.
